Promoting the integrated use of satellite and drone data for environmental monitoring: the new challenge for NHAZCA in Lazio Innova’s Living Lab project

Another interesting opportunity for NHAZCA to make available to the community the results of its many years of experience in the field of remote sensing applied to the control and management of the territory. It is the objective of the pilot project proposed by NHAZCA and approved by Lazio Innova in the framework of the Living Lab started within the POR FESR – Strengthening of the Active Space Network (Measure D, action 3 “Open Micro-Innovation Laboratories).

The project aims at promoting innovative technical and technological solutions able to optimise the integrated analysis of data acquired by satellite and drone for detecting and monitoring the evolution of mining activities. The innovation is based on a method that makes it possible not only to exploit the use of drones for monitoring quarry extraction volumes and compliance with environmental regulations, but also to assess the management of mining sites in the past through the analysis of archive satellite images.
